One of our latest website designs is shown here. W One of our latest website designs is shown here. We launched this website for Tara and Tony, a husband and wife team of branding photographers.

Our goal was a sleek simple professional website that gets right to the point. Especially for photographers that have businesses as their audience navigation needs to be super easy to find exactly what the viewer is looking for. It's always important but decision makers in commercial photography fields really don't want to spend a lot of time looking at non-relavent content.

We have a header photo, with a few navigation choices, followed by a statement about what they do. Under this is quick access to their galleries, by different specialities.

Our website designs are strategic, taking the time to understand each of our clients and what they need. They always look good too, but looking good isn't enough. Websites need strategic content, and really thought out flows to convert viewers to clients.

What does mobile friendly mean these days? It used What does mobile friendly mean these days? It used to mean there was a separate version of your website for phones. Now it's just that your website adapts for the screen size it is being viewed on, whether that is a 28 inch HD monitor, tablet or phone. Besides looking good, it needs to be easy to navigate and to read when on a mobile device. Here's an example of the website I shared yesterday on the phone. The gallery is easy to click, clearly labeled and even the small fonts can still be read. Plus I always like the add the little arrow on the bottom to "return to top". This just makes it quicker for viewers on their phones to get around your website.

Keeping mobile in mind when designing a website is Keeping mobile in mind when designing a website is no longer enough. Phones and tablets need to be considered ALL throughout the design process, since more than 50% of viewers will go to your website on their phones first (and maybe only). We constantly go back and forth between views as we design websites.

A few posts back, I shared this website on desktop. Here's the homepage on mobile. If you scroll back, you'll see how it converts between the two, keeping the same feel.

How many of your clients first view your website o How many of your clients first view your website on a large computer screen like this? As designers, creatives, photographers, we'd like to think most, but it's becoming less and less true. The average is 55% of viewers are on mobile but we have to assume that this is going to be higher and higher as time goes on.

Open your website on your phone and see how it looks. Can you read all the text? Does the flow of how you go through it work easily? Does it look like mobile wasn't an afterthought?
