Pro Photo Hosting, an update

I’ve written a couple of posts back when Pro Photo made the announcement that they were ending support and updates to their WordPress theme, unless you are hosting directly with them. That date has come and gone, at the beginning of 2023.

Where are we now with this and what do I recommend?

I’ll start with that I am writing this blog post on a Pro Photo website hosted on Flywheel. However, it’s starting to make me a little uncomfortable, so I am beginning to work towards redesigning my company’s website with a new WordPress theme. I spent an hour today, creating a Word document of all my written copy, and taking screenshots of every page, as the first step.

Since I’m a web designer, if my website crashes I can likely recover it, or figure out the issue pretty quickly. This makes me push the boundaries on my own website WAY further than I would ever recommend a client doing. By the end of 2023, I’d plan on either having your website migrated to Pro Photo Sites hosting, or to have redesigned it with a new theme.

If you are using Pro Photo on a different host, time is now to make a decision.

Option 1:

Change to Pro Photo’s hosting

They have excellent support and high quality hosting. Plus it also includes all future updates of Pro Photo for one monthly rate. Yes, the rate is more than you may be paying, but I do think it’s worth it, if you’re committed to staying with Pro Photo. If you’re leaning this way, read my article with more details about Pro Photo Hosting.

Option 2:

Change the theme of your website to something other than Pro Photo

You can keep WordPress, and all your blog posts, but the entire look will need to be redesigned. This is the option I am choosing, but that is because I regularly use other themes and I need to be able to host multiple websites with my host. I have a bulk plan with Flywheel that allows me to do this. If you are going to redesign your website, I’d suggest WordPress paired with Kadence or Elementor.
