Summer – A personal post

I feel like I am long overdue for a personal post.  I last blogged about our trip to Long Beach Island in June.  I guess going to the beach motivates me to write, since I just got back again.

Last week, Mackenzie and I joined my mom at LBI again, just for a couple days this time.  We had an adventure going to the rides at sunset, which Mackenzie decided was midnight.  She just knew it was way past her bedtime.  Mostly we just played in the pool and enjoyed the gorgeous weather, being outside all day every day. Below are some photos (taken on my phone) of our fun, tweaked with lots of creative liberty in VSCO.

August is a slow month for weddings, so I get to relax, a little bit.  Before our trip to New Jersey, we spent a week in Tennessee with my hubby’s family.  We made a little road trip of it.  On the way back I second shot a wedding in rural Virginia, while hubby and the little one had a pizza party at the hotel.  Then in the morning we took the very scenic route through the mountains, and went to Luray Caverns.  Mackenzie loved the cave, which made me really happy since I used to spend my weekends caving, many years ago.

Then it was back to work for a fun Georgetown engagement session, followed by an amazing DC wedding complete with monuments in the rain, and the very neat venue, Stroga.  (I wish I could share but my client asked not to be published online.)

In July, I accomplished a big personal fitness goal.  I ran my first 5k!  That’s me #269, in the photo below, running the kids dash with my family, after recovering from the 5k.  A few weeks later, I joined a team of friends for a women’s 5k mud run in Leesburg.  We waded through the river, climbed obstacles, and of course, slid through mud.  It was incredibly fun experience.

It’s been a big summer!  Now I’m back to a regular office schedule, with the fall wedding season in full swing.  Stay tuned to see some amazing weddings from this summer including Love Point at Kent Island, Le Meridien, a Maryland campsite turned into a ballroom, and more!

The photos in this post were either taken by me on my phone, or by someone else.  So they are in no way representative of my skills as a photographer.  If you’d like to see my work, view a favorite wedding here.
