A new website for California wedding photographers Indigo West

We recently redesigned this website for Southern California wedding photographers Indigo West. My client wanted to maintain the brand feel from their original website but just have it freshened up and transitioned to Squarespace 7.1.

We started with a mood board, including a color palette (where we took the original brand colors and expanded upon them) and typography.

From this, we designed a mockup homepage in Adobe XD, and then moved onto to designing the new website within Squarespace. While Squarespace offers a lot more flexibility than it used to, it’s still not as flexible as WordPress. It does have a slight advantage in ease of use, and a few other areas (like online courses and simple storefronts).

I always tell my clients that projects and the design often morphs as we go through the phases. In phase 1 (concepts & inspiration) we are going for the feel and vibe of the brand. In phase 2, designing the site structure and homepage, we are really locking in elements.

You’ll see that this website design definitely changes as we go through the process. Here’s the homepage as we first created in. Click on the image below to see the full page.

In the video below, you’ll see the final version after we had our feedback session with the client. We changed a few photos. tweaked section layouts and the client opted to create a new logo as well.
