Father of the Bride

I’m not an emotional person at weddings. I adore the stories of each day, the energy, being invited into such personal moments, and capturing your stories to preserve for future generations. If anything gets to me, it’s the dads.

When I see the look on the father of the bride, I just think of my hubby one day being there with our daughter. It just pops into my head for a second, as I focus on the proud expression on each dad’s face as he walks down the aisle, or often just after walking away.

Here is one from this past summer. Jamie’s father just walked her down the aisle and is about to be seated for the ceremony.

The groom and his men seemed to have extra fun smoking cigars, late in the reception, at Melanie & Adam’s wedding. And what a hug Dad gives to his daughter after their dance!

The expression on Jennifer’s dad’s face just says it all. This is one of those shots, where at first I look at and say “oh but I should have opened up the lens more for background blur” or such. Then I just look at the moment, and realize it just doesn’t matter. No one else was around this corner, where he was sitting. It’s a chance for the bride to see her dad looking so happy and yet apprehensive, right before he walks her down the aisle.

One year to the day {Salem Wedding Photography}

On August 22nd 2008, Kayla & Skyler met. They were in a friend’s wedding party at the Gateway Community Church in Salem, Oregon. One year later, the two chose to have their own wedding at the same site.

The look on Kayla’s father’s face in this picture makes me think of what it will be like to see my daughter (who is only a toddler) get married. It stirs up all sorts of emotion in me.

The ceremony is being held in a field behind the church. What an amazing view. Thanks Kayla & Skyler for choosing me to do your wedding photography!

Once at the church, the bride and her party hung out in the limo waiting for the ceremony to begin. I got to jump in a couple times for a few shots, and could sense the anticipation. The groom was outside the church with his men, as the wedding guests arrived and got seated. I went in and out of the church a few times so that I could photograph the couple outside and the guests inside. I was using a side door but I would still every time see a head or two turn, with that tension of hoping to see the bride. It’s such a great moment when the bride does walk through.
