Mount Airy Mansion – Maryland Wedding

Liz and Austin got married at Mount Airy Mansion in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. It’s a gorgeous historic estate with acres upon acres of property, and a beautiful mansion. I love wedding venues that have both indoor and outdoor areas for weddings. You get the best of both worlds. The wedding ceremony was at St. Barnabas Church, where Liz grew up attending with her family. I was asked not to photograph during the ceremony, but I was delighted to be able to capture the moments right before and after.

When I designed Liz and Austin’s wedding album, I originally left out a photo of Austin & his brother playing a board game. This is the scene I arrived to on their wedding day. I just wasn’t sure if it belonged in the album, though I had a feeling. Sure enough Liz came back and asked me to include it in, because it really showed who they are. I just thought it was so sweet.

Pier 5 Wedding – Baltimore Inner Harbor

I recently photographed this wedding at the Pier 5 Hotel at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore. It’s a smaller hotel, with beautiful rooms, and even more incredible views. Congratulations Ashley & Kris, and thank you Artemas for asking me to photograph with you!

Not quite a first look

I love this idea. A first look that isn’t really a first look.

I photographed this wedding, as a second shooter, for Artemas Photography. It was at the Pier 5 Hotel at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore. Ashley and Kris did not want to see each other first but they wanted to have some sort of photo taken together. We spotted these tall back chairs in the lobby. Kris hid in a nearby room. Once Ashley was seated, her bridesmaids walked him to the chair behind her, with his eyes closed.

Pier 5 is a fun wedding venue, with an incredible suite that overlooks the harbor! More photos of Ashley & Kris’s wedding to come soon.

Rachel & Bill | Washington DC Wedding

Rachel & Bill got married this spring at Mclean Gardens ballroom in NW Washington DC. The couple met in choir group, and now lives together in Philadelphia. Thank you Rachel & Bill for having me as your wedding photographer!

Susan and Matt got married at Potomac Point Winery in Stafford, Virginia. I was super excited when Heather Bee asked me to photograph this wedding with her. I have always wanted to photograph a vineyard wedding! (Actually, I kind of wanted to get married at a vineyard myself.) Thanks Heather for having me along!

2011 in Review

The last year has been a whirlwind. It has been quite a journey personally and professionally.

We moved with 3 weeks notice, so I had no time to build relationships or my business here. I arrived in January with nothing on my books and only knowing a handful of names of other photographers. When I started to reach out, everyone volunteered information about what the business was like in the DC area, and really accepted me in, with any hesitation of new competition.

Thanks to shared referrals from other photographers, and lots of networking, I wrapped up my season this year, having shot 20 weddings in the DC area! I’ve also made some great new friends, met wonderful couples, and gotten to see lots of Maryland, Virginia, and Washington DC wedding venues.

Below are some highlights from 2011. A special thanks to the wedding photographers that invited me to photograph with them, Leo Druker, Heather Bee, Ayesha Ahmed, Stephen Gosling, Hadar Goren, Sam Hurd, Astrid, and Jen Smith!

Long Haul Films

In October, I photographed a wedding with Heather Bee Photography at Potomac Point Vineyards in Stafford, Virginia. While Heather and Potomac Point are both amazing, this post is about the video team we worked with, Long Haul Films. I work with a lot of videographers but this pair was different so I wanted to dedicate a quick post.

First, go to their website and watch Matt & Susan’s wedding. This is the wedding where I had the pleasure of meeting Tom and Melissa. They are husband and wife, based in Boston. It’s rare I recommend a wedding vendor that is out of town, but they are willing to travel to the DC area. Besides the amazing artistic work they turn out, the two were a pleasure to be around. Heather and I shot side by side Tom and Melissa all day. They were creative, shared ideas, and just fun.

The teams used different tools and cameras through out the day. They mixed modern dslr cameras with vintage film… just really neat stuff. I admitedly am not very into video. I don’t watch utube very often. I prefer my tutorials in text than video. It’s rare I think to watch a couple’s wedding video, but this one I have been super excited to see, since the day of the wedding.

So if you are looking for a wedding videographer, check out Long Haul Film. Especially if you are looking for something a little different, I think it’s worth bringing these two in from out of town.
