For the last couple of weeks, I’ve been working with Dawn Hernandez Photography on a customized ProPhoto 6 template. Dawn is a child and family photographer based in Baton Rouge, LA. Her business is new so she wanted a quick and simple solution for her website.
Dawn and I worked together to decide on the best look for her new website and choose a premade template from the ProPhoto design store. Once we found the one that was closest to the look she wanted, we worked on a color palette and new logo. Next, I installed the new template, added all Dawn’s portfolio images, customized the page layouts, and changed the colors. Finally, a few more tweaks were needed to make the website truly the right fit for Dawn’s brand.
We also made sure to get the mobile version working just right, as Dawn knows that many of her visitors see her site first on their phones. This is becoming more and more common these days. (I know my numbers are above 50% of visitors view via mobile!) ProPhoto 6 does a beautiful job of providing a gorgeous and functional mobile version of your website, including the ability to make changes just for a particular version. With Dawn’s site the logo placement did not look right on mobile, so we removed it from the header and put it above, just for phone visitors. I love that ProPhoto included this type of design choice.
As I mention in my review of ProPhoto, it’s a huge learning curve from the previous version, so many clients are coming to me just needing a little help. Dawn knew what she wanted but she was also realistic about the amount of time she had to devote to the project and did not want to struggle with the setup. Together we were able to get the website launched and get it customized to exactly what she envisioned.
