I got an email this past week from a magazine in Tennessee. They are running an article on a person here in Portland, and needed a business portrait taken of him for their magazine cover. I did the shoot today in Wilsonville, and am sending the images off to the magazine on Monday. This is a first for me, to be published!
As a photographer that specializes in maternity, children, and weddings, I never really gave much thought to business portraits. A few months back I got my first request for one, and figured why not. The client understood it was not something I typically did but she did not want ordinary portraits. She wanted something that showed who she was and liked my style. Another month or so later I got another similar inquiry from a woman running her own small business in Portland.
While I don’t feature this service on my website, it is something I offer. I would say my style is best for those who are looking for a personal touch to your portrait or more of a lifestyle photography feel. My business clients typically would rather me not post the images on my site but I do have some samples in my a password protected gallery that I can show potential clients by request.
I’ve learned that business portraits don’t have to be old fashioned or standing still in front of a backdrop. These days we all need pictures for our blogs, or even just for networking on Linked In or Facebook. In fact, I really need some new ones myself!
